Why are Martin acoustic guitars made before WWII more valuable than guitars made after the war?

GroganK asked:

I noticed on eBay that some Martin are listed as pre-war guitars. I've also seen these guitars go for higher prices that I would have thought. Why are these pre-WWII guitars more valuable and sell for so much more that the acoustic guitars made after the war?

Quite simply because they are collectable. There are people who collect used acoustic guitars just like there are people that collect stamps or coins…or just about anything else for that matter. Martin acoustic guitars are quality guitars and they are popular with knowledgable guitarists. If you really want to see some insane prices, take a look at the prices of Fender guitars and amps from the fifties and sixties.
