Alan asked:
I just got a good acoustic guitar. It hasĀ a solid wood top and I'd like to take care of it properly. The guy at the music store sold me a guitar humidifier when I bought the guitar, and not knowing any better I bought it.
Did the guy at the store rip me off or do I really need a guitar humidifier for my acoustic guitar? He did not tell me how to use it...I don't know if I should put the humidifier in the guitar case in whenever I am not playing it or if I just need to put it in once in a while?
Thanks for the help.
Keep the humidifier in the case anytime that you are not playing your acoustic guitar. Just make sure to keep check the humidifier periodically to make sure that it is still holding water. Do this for older guitars, too. Sometimes they can even restore guitars that are ‘damaged’ from over drying…within limitations. A humidifier can keep the wood from cracking and keep the guitar sounding new.
