Why are Martin acoustic guitars made before WWII more valuable than guitars made after the war?

I noticed on eBay that some Martin acoustic guitars are listed as pre-war guitars. I've also seen these guitars go for higher prices that I would have thought. Why are these pre-WWII guitars more valuable and sell for so much more that the acoustic guitars made after the war?
