Bentley asked:

I have a Martin DX1 acoustic guitar that was used when I bought it. I thought that Martin guitars were supposed to be made in America but the label inside of the guitar says that it was made in Mexico. Does anybody know if Martin makes acoustic guitars in Mexico?

I thought that they were all made in Nazareth, PA. Maybe you should contact them and find out if it’s really a Martin acoustic guitar or a fake.

  • Brian says:

Probably because it was actually made in Mexico.

  • JarHead says:

It has a made in Mexico label inside of the acoustic guitar because that’s where it was made. The DXM is Martin’s value acoustic guitar line and has laminated sides and backs to save costs. To further reduce costs, them moved this line of acoustic guitars to Mexico in 2004 for production. Martin has actually been in Mexico since the early 1990s.

The Martin factory is in Nazareth, PA. I thought that’s where all of their acoustic guitars were made, at least mine was when I bought a used acoustic guitar a while ago. Shoot them an email ask them whether they’re now making guitars in Mexico now.

The Martin DX1 is their low end or entry model. There are no frills on it to save on costs, and to reduce cost further it is made in Mexico. They are decent guitars, but just not as good as the acoustic guitars that Martin makes in Nazareth, PA. You get what you pay for.

It is analagous to Fender that has several lines of Strats and Teles, including their Mexican line. These made in Mexico guitars are not really preferred, but they meet a certain pricing level and are generally a good buy for someone that needs to save money.

The Martin X Series guitars are proudly made in Mexico. Just because the label says that, it doesn’t mean that their quality is poor or they are junk. Any guitar is the same as another. Before you buy it feel it, play it and love it. If it loves you back then check the label and most of the times you will get a surprise! I don’t care if it’s an American or a Mexican made acoustic guitar, Martin guitars are the best.

Yes…a Martin made in Mexico…I know…it’s scary. Problem is…call them entry level or whatever you want…these things wail. I also have a 28…sorry to say, I can’t tell a lot of difference in the sound. Too bad..not made in the good ole usa. People worry about quality control…makes sense, especially when purchasing an instrument, but this is Martin. See…Martin…Mexico? huh? Both start with the letter “M”…it’s a sure thing. Seriously though, you have the real deal and a quality instrument.
